Community LOOW Project News and Update Page

This is where I will post recent news and information concerning the project.

9/30/08    The Community LOOW Project Report has been submitted to Niagara County and is posted on the Health Departments website http://www.niagaracounty.com/Health/loow.asp   A meeting to discuss the report is planned for 7 pm October 14 2008 at the Lewiston Senior Center.

1/30/08    Fourth Public Meeting   This meeting was held at Dunleavy Hall at Niagara University on Wednesday, January 30 2008.  The primary purpose was to update community members on project progress and to do a live demonstration of the LOOW GIS mapping website. Copies of the presentation will be available soon.  The Community LOOW GIS site can be accessed at http://communityloowproject.com/      Meeting #4 Announcement

10/15/07    Well, we've had an interesting summer and early fall.  I had hoped to be able to provide a more detailed report by this time, but we have experienced some delays with the GIS work.  The transfer of the website to the hosting Erie County servers has not gone as smoothly as initially hoped.  But, E&E and others are working hard to get the problems worked out so we can get the LOOW GIS up and running.

6/13/2007    Third Public meeting  was held at the Lewiston Senior Center on Wednesday June 13 2007. Dan Stapleton welcomed the attendees and Scott King presented an overview and update of recent progress. Dr. Marvin Resnikoff presented some preliminary work concerning his review of radioactivity on portions of the LOOW and Central Drainage Ditch. Derek Amerlinck and Lisa McFail of Ecology and Environment, Inc. gave a presentation concerning the status, function and content of the LOOW Geographic Information System. Copies of the presentation are located at the Community LOOW Project website  www.niagaracounty.com/health/loow.asp

2/22/2007    read the February 2007 update

1/30/2007    Ecology & Environment, Inc. and CLP hold kickoff meeting.  A geographic information system (GIS) for the Community LOOW Project and accessible through the internet will be developed by E&E as part of their overall contract with Niagara County to implement a county-wide GIS.  An implementation plan for the LOOW GIS plan is due at the end of February 2007.  Subsequently, when the functionality and data layers are defined, a useable system will be available to the project team by end of April 2007, and fully functioning by mid-May.  E&E will complete the LOOW GIS work by the end of June 2007.
